Dear Experts,

Kindly go through the below case and the query. Your interpretaion of the requirement of API 5LD will be helpful.

Case:

We have to weld overlay on the inside of 36" NPS pipe (7 Mtr Long) with Inconel 625. Minimum 2 layers to be deopisted for final CRA thickness of 3.2mm minimum.

The Pipe is having a Long seam and is in accordance with API 5L PSL2.

My Query:

1. Whethter these overlayed pipes can be considered as Welded Clad Pipe? If yes, then
A: Pipe will be considered as weld overlayed pipe.

2. Whether the radiogrpahy in accordance with Clause 11.1.1 of API 5LD is to be done throughtout the length of the long seam before weld overlay or after weld overlay.

A: No. Pipe manufacturer performs RT of weld seam. If not done, you have to perform.

3. When the 36" NPS pipe is supplied by other vendor with radiogrpahy as per API 5L PSL2 and the weld overlay is done by us on the inside of the pipe, does the clasue 11.2 of API 5LD is applicable in this case.

   A: No

3. What all NDE is applicable in this case.
A : PT shall be performed on each layer of weld verlay (1st Layer & 2nd Layer).

Regards,
