Re: [MW:15303] PWHT holding temp exceed by 10 deg out of specified limit

Mr. Mohd. Sadique Sheikh,

SR temperature  for Carbon steel is 600 0C ± 20 0 for materials having carbon content up to 0.25 % and it is  620 0C ± 20 0 for materials having carbon content beyond 0.35 %. It is followed  by BS /EN also.

Hence an additional 10 0 C in your case should not be a problem as long as your holding temp. is 2 hrs. for 50mm thick.

Sridhar.

Subject: [MW:15295] PWHT holding temp exceed by 10 deg out of specified limit

Dear ALL,
While reviewing PWHT chart, I found that for IS 2062 E250 B, 50mm butt joints holding temp found exceed by 10degree (Required 590 deg +- 10 deg and observed 610 deg).
My question is 1) Is it acceptable?
2) what will be the effect on joints by exceeding 10 deg temp out of specified limit?
3) Does code permit to do PWHT again on same joints in specified limit of temp?

Thanks & regards,

Mohd. Sadique Sheikh
