[MW:14787] Selection of Impact value and its temperature

Dear experts,

We use a material of heavy thick of Cast steel of GOST 988 Mod 8GDFNL Grade in our production unit and are planning to join two pieces by welding partly by SMAW and FCAW. The requirement of base material Impact strength is 491KJ/Sq.M at minus 50degC on U5 specimen as per spec.

I understood that the impact requirement of weld metal is lesser than that of base metal. If this is true, can any suggest what is the required impact value for my weld and at what temperature. It would be useful if the statement is supported by any reference like code or journal or etc.

Regards,
Megnath
