[MW:14340] Soaking time-PWHT-AISI 4130

Hi

I have a 5 inch thick butt weld procedure which I want to use for build up requirement (ASME IX allow it?). The procedure has been heat treated for 4 hours.

I have to do build up of about 10 mm on 5 inch thick material.

Is HT soaking time calculated as per  'actual welded thickness' for build up carried out or base material thickness on which build up is being carried out?

(Referring to section 407.4 (SAW welding) regarding aggregate soaking times)

Practically, I dont think soaking time of 4 hours for butt should be used for build up for 10 mm, residual stresses on the inside thickness to be negligible?. And therefore , procedure can not be used?

Any guidance on the above query would be much appreciated.

Thanks
