[MW:13874] Thickness Range for Repair welding Procedure.

Kindly Share knowledge as details below..


I have Done Repair PQR as per ASME & DEP- SHELL DEP 31 38 01
31, Except Root opening on 12" Superduplex materil X

thickness-17.48mm.Total Deep Excavation is -13.48 mm Except Root
opening (04mm).

As per ASME Sec-IX - QW-202.3 Weld Repair and Buildup. WPS qualified
on groove welds shall be applicable for weld repairs to
groove and fillet welds.
As per DEP31 38 01 31-2.4.2 Welding of duplex stainless steel-The
quality of duplex stainless steel welds very much depends on heat-
input control. The-
3. Repair weld procedures for half wall thickness and cap repairs also
require a PQR.

Now My Query is How much thickness will Qualify In Repair WPS?

Kindly send me some Reference or Details as mention above.

Hi,  You are correct, Minimum refers to the one cycle for which this part will expose until final work shop PWHT. hence mill test certificate shall include this.  Max. SPWHT, refers to additional cycles of heat treatment that are reserved for future repairs during equipment lifetime.  Again, these simulated no. Of cycles shall be specified in MTC.  The idea is we need to make sure that steel mechanical properties are not compromised upon exposure to multiple repairs (i e 4 cycles in your case).  One could say, if steel is subjected to 4 cycles and is ok, then it should by defacto be good for one cycle, yet, this is wrong assumption cause mechanical problems and microstructure of materials varies accordingly based on no. Introduction The colour formed when stainless steel is heated, either in a furnace application or in the heat affected zone of welds, is dependent on several factors that are related to the oxidation resistance of the steel.
