Re: [MW:13551] Modification of the flange joint welding

Dear pramoth,
The only way is cut and re weld. while  you welding time advice the welder to weld sequence basic.
there is no codes says recap the joint.
if misalignment is there pump bearing will be worn out and pump running time you can find vibrations.

Dear Pramodh,

You can give the reference of API 686 para 4.7.4 note 1 which states"
Methods for achieving piping alignment include shimming supports, adjusting spring hanger tie-rod turnbuckles,
retorquing flanges, installing piping support spacers, selectively heating one side of the pipe (diamond heating), ring heating,
cutting and rewelding, or completely refabricating the piping. The method or methods selected are determined by the piping
configuration and materials and will be different for each installation.

Removing of capping and rewelding is common method used for flange alignment correction.

Subject: [MW:13520] Modification of the flange joint welding

Guys,
I have an issue. Half of the pipe grit welds ground up to capping due to misalignment problem between pump flanges with pipe flange. Now the issue is our client is not accepting this type of modification. Client says that if you are re-welding (removal of capping up to half of the portion) and re-weld, the joint get more stress.
Note: Re-welding carried out after losing the stud from the pump flange.
Replied to client that we did the modification like repairing the joint. He is not convinced.
Can anyone advise me how I can satisfy my client with reference with code?
Which code is saying the up to what extend you can remove the weld?
You valuable advice will be expecting soon.
Thanks and regards
Pramodh
