[MW:13400] Forgings @ low temperatures..

Dear all,

         Greetings for the day..!!

.

The Impact properties of Forged products (i.e. Flanges) are weak, when compared with Extruded products (i.e. seamless pipes) at low temperatures.

For example as per ASME SEC 09, if Impact testing is required G no (group number) comes in to picture and separate welding procedure qualification is required with pipe& flanges.

My question to you all is, what makes the forged product to fail at low temperatures..???.

Kindly explain with metallurgical reasons. Also correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Regards,

Sudhakar.K
