Hi,
Just understand the clear funda behind the low hydrogen electrodes.
1. First re dry as per manufacturer's recommendation such as 250 deg C for 2
hrs etc and after reaching the recommended temperature it shall hold for the
period say 2 / 3 hrs as per mfrs. recommendations.
2. then transfer to holding oven which shall at least 100 - 120 deg C for 24
hrs.
3. From holding oven transfer required quantity of electrodes to the portable
oven (quiver) for site welding and keep it at least 70 deg C.
4. If due to any reasons power cut more than 4/5 hrs then again re bake but it
shall not more than 3 times otherwise the flux may get spoiled and welding
defect arise.

The Low hydrogen electrodes are very sensitive to the moisture and can inject
hydrogen to the weld and can affect the weld zone results in hydrogen induced
crack , that's it should must.

Dear Experts,
Anybody can advice please, when we use low hydrogen type electrode for steel
structure welding erection (SMAW process) does it require to be baked all the
time @70 C deg on work station?
Is it acceptable when the welder only keep the electrode into the portable oven
without baking (after issued from holding oven) although it is a not best
practice?
For information, the material of the steel structure is carbon steel Q235.
Appreciate your sharing. Thanks.
Regards,
Endri
