You are permitted to use the SWPSs per Section IX unless the construction Code specifies otherwise. Requirements for use/implementation are enumerated in QW-510.
In order to use an SWPS, you must:
1. Either write a WPS referencing the SWPS that is identical to all the boundaries/requirements of the SWP written on your company’s standard form or in your company’s format or use the SWPS directly with Your company clearly identified. In either case, the proper person must still certify or take responsibility for the WPS. No PQR is required.
2. The Construction Code or governing document for which the SWP is intended to be used must be identified.
3. A demonstration test must be performed – See QW-510 (d) for parameters to be recorded. {Note: this can be combined with weldor performance qualification}
4. Testing of the demonstration test:
a. visual examination per QW-302.4 and
b. either mechanical testing, QW-302.1, or volumetric testing per QW-302.2.
Yes – weldor qualification is still required.
NOTE: you must follow the SWPS as written without any deviation. SWPS cannot be modified, addended by additional PQR(s), or combined with other SWPS(s) or WPS(s).

Subject: [MW:12874] standard wps
Dear all, can anybody throw light on SWPs (standard wps mentioned in ASME section IX)............if we follow swps as mentioned in code then there is no need to qualify wps/pqr (except impact tested wps)...only welder qualification will be needed.....am I right ?
