Re: [MW:12674] need to add a pipe to a piping station, do we need to make hydrostatic test again?

Depending on the wall thickness and the service of the line (potable water I assume), you can make %100 percent X-ray or UT (and also in order to convince the client, bubble test priour to the painting activities) as per ASME B31.3 Process Piping.
Quoting from the 2006 edition of the abovementioned standard:

"345.9 Alternative Leak Test
The following procedures and leak test method may
be used only under the conditions stated in para.
345.1(c).
345.9.1 Examination of Welds. Welds, including
those used in the manufacture of welded pipe and fittings,
which have not been subjected to hydrostatic or
pneumatic leak tests in accordance with this Code, shall
be examined as follows:
79
(a) Circumferential, longitudinal, and spiral groove
welds shall be 100% radiographed in accordance with
para. 344.5 or 100% ultrasonically examined in accordance
with para. 344.6.
(b) All welds, including structural attachment welds,
not covered in (a) above, shall be examined using the
liquid penetrant method (para. 344.4) or, for magnetic
materials, the magnetic particle method (para. 344.3)."

Be sure that client like aramco and SWCC will be hard to deal with, you need to convince them properly.

Dear Welding People

I have 1 question for you

We had finished the hydrotesting of the pump station. But now electric
company ask for adding 1 pipe (2 inch)  to a 40" pipe. But we have
already finished the hydrotest for this line. I need to know does
anyone know any standard or specification that tells any solution for
this sitaution except re-hydortesting.

Thanks for kind attention
