Re: [MW:12643] RE: 12636] Impact value at -59 Deg C reg

Hello Eswaran
For Welding of P5C and P5A(,2.25Cr 1Mo, and 2.25 Cr 1Mo , 0.25V)
Now days To avoid Step cooling  and subsequent Impact testing at various temp. below  minus 29C to plot the transition temp curve to estblish Nil ductility temp. the Impact test is carried at minus 60C with 54J Average  after PWHT only (No step cooling Cycle)
My experience is , we could achieve this value with proper welding parameter for SMAW and SAW We have used E9015 B3 and EB3 witth 420TTRW flux
(We have carried PWHT at 690C for 5Hrs and 30Hrs)

Hello Eswaran,

SA 182F22 or equivalent plates, SA 387 Gr22  is not designed for low temperature application. If you're getting satisfactory impact values at minus -29 deg C then it's a very good case. What  are the impact values achieved (both weld and HAZ) ?

On the same token asking for impact at minus (-) 59 Deg C on the same steel, Avg 42 J/ Minimum 32 J ,would not be practical, as this beyond the limits of this steel.
For a temperature of (-) 59 Deg C , 2.5% Nickel steel, SA 203 Gr A/B would be the most appropriate and cost effective material.

Can you elaborate:-
  • the design and operating temperature
  • Process media/ fluid to be handled.
  • Service conditions.
  • If the customer insists on weld metal of similar chemistry to the base metal?
Thanks.

Subject: [MW:12636] Impact value at -59 Deg C reg

Good day to All,

We proposed to weld A182 F22 Material to F22 Material  80 KSI , Presently we have Impact value -29 Deg C is ok , Now my customer requirement -59 Deg C Impact value Avg 42 J/ Minimum 32 J, after PWHT 638 Deg C  4 Hrs minimum.
Process -SMAW & SAW
Presently used Consumables - E10018 D2 & AK 10 wires

Please give your suggestion which consumables / Brand, i can get the impact value.I refer the few suppliers consumables  certificates 100 %  weld metal impact value is equal or less than my requirement.

Thanks
Regards
E.Jegan
