I was always taught it is the O.D  x 3.14 divided by the number of cassettes or take the 0.D. x 3.14 and divided by whatever you want on the length of film, i.e. if you want 15” to show your area of interest then take the O.D. x 3.14 and divide by that and you will  know how many cassettes you will need to surround that pipe/vessel.
