RE: [MW:12460] Measure of Sensitivity on Elliptical Joints of 2"NB pipes or any other Elliptical Radiography Shots.

My way of thinking that on a DWE/DWV we are seeing top AND bottom of weld on each film, so wouldn’t we have to judge the sensitivity of each area . so I would place the wire pentrameter across the weld which when you perform an elliptical shot would result in the wires crossing both images of the weld on each film.  Unless you have a unusual large donut on the film, the wires would show on both sides.  If the donut image is enlarge so much that the wires don’t show then sensitivity is not there; aren’t we looking at both the top and bottom portion of the weld? We are supposed to use a source side pen Unless we are unable to due to configuration.

Dear Experts ;

I am again with you even though getting Good feedback from you, because I have received different answare from different persons for which are not sufficient to clrify my question about Measurement of Sensitivity of Elliptial joints because of different persons are giving different type of answare so, I am attaching herewith some sketchs & ASME Sec-V  Aerical-2 & related Documents  for your reference.

Sincerely requested togo through attachments and advised by spending your valuable time for my help.

With best regards,
RK Vichare

Direct Answer: Preferable wire must cross top & bottom image but, If wires are crossing top image only and meeting the required sensitivity (required wires are appeared) than it should not be rejected (at least not just because of wires are not crossing the bottom image) Provided the gap between two images is less then or equal to 1.5” inch.

Justification to the above mention: Why only top image is very important and not the bottom image?

Because, in elliptical technique Penetrameter should placed on source side and if the top image is meeting the required sensitivity, means the bottom is meeting the required sensitivity for sour because, the distance variation between two images are approximately 2’” inch (I do not know what size in your case)

Regards.

Mirza.

  MOST URGENT PL.

Dear All Experts/Experienced Personal in Process Piping in

Refinery/Radiography /NDT Leverl III (RT),

Dear Friends,

As all related experince personal are know about  Elliptacl Radiography shorts; my question is ; while measureing sensitivity with Wire type penetrameter whether it must be cross top & bottom image of Elliptical coverage area of weld or only top portion of weld.  As per my Field experience I suggested for to cover full Elliptical coverage of weld but one of my vendor is refusing to do this same. In section 5 Artical 2 page 13 Clause(d) confirming IQI Placement for weld- Wire IQI , the IQI(s) shall be place on the weld so that the length of the ire is perpenticular to the length of the weld. I sincerely requested to all experts pl be gauide per return mail.

Mater most urgent & interesting in Radiography technology

With Best Regards,
