Re: [MW:12052] Minimum distance between butt weld joint and support weld

Stress concentration effect of adjacent welds is the cause of specifying a min distance between welds.

If you keep a certain distance (say 50mm or 4 x pipe thickness) it's not going to be that harmful but if you can not avoid this, you'd better stress relieve one of the welds (pipe but weld is better).

This way there will be no concern at all...!!!

in case of austenitic stainless steel or wherever stress relief is not allowable, just re-locate the support (or pipe weld)
