Gents,

Can we clear 2 questions here please?

1. To qualify the welders to 6GR position as per AWS D1.1 is it mandatory to have a WPS specific for 6GR position?
2. Is it possible using a WPS qualified for 6G position we can test the welders to 6GR?

Thanks
Martin.

When the welder qualification test is carried out in 6GR position the ID of the pipe (6"x16mm is welded to 6"x22 mm with plate restriction as per Fig. 4.27 AWS D1.1) is offset. When the test pieces are prepared for bend test is it required to skim the root (offset) section by removing the offset or left as welded and carry out the bend test?
