Re: [MW:11775] weld stop during root pas

Hi Jagdish
Plan to prevent recurrence: bring this to the attention of your QC (inspector). Be sure that this will not happen in the future. To continue the welding, first of all, find out what your project specification said. If the project spec is silent, you can go through your welding procedure specification. You have to get pre heat temperature and interpass temperature (I notify if this is as an essential variable according to your process).

dear,

as per the code/specifications,, when welding starts we have to complete atleast 70% of the weld,if we stop welding due to some reasons u want to preheat the joint before the welding starts.

Jagdish,

Making the root weld half done is not a good workmanship.

Also, most codes put a restriction for such things and at least root and hot pass must be completed before any interruption in welding.

What is your application of welding and check with your client spec.
