Re: [MW:11091] Hydrotesting of unfired pressure vessel

When the vessel is in vertical position the bottom dish is also getting subjected to hydraulic head, which does not happen when the vessel hydro is carried out in horizontal position. So you see that you are not exactly simulating the operating conditions during hydro. Hence your TPIA is insisting on the vertical position of the vessel.

Hi,all

One of our 3rd party inspector refused to witnessed hydro test of unfired pressure vessel because the actual site erection of vessel is vertical but we offered vessel Hydro at horizontal due to space restriction. vessel diameter 3000mm X 3200 mm longx12 mm thickness.

Construction code ASME section IX.

What is the reason behind the position in doing Hydro test, what will be effect/reason for rejection if the vessel was tested in horizontal position and any standard says regarding this condition.

Pl. suggest.
