Re: [MW:10967] SOCKET WELDS

you can go for Socket weld, only if your Client's "Material Piping class" allows it.

What about elbows and other fittings in the same Line, are they socket weld?, if it is so, we can do socket welding for pipe to pipe joints, with clients approval.

Dear experts,

We have contractor who is suppose to carryout some repair welding for 1/2" piping schedule 160 and the material is  A106 Gr B. Due to unavailability of material they wanted to have socket welds but the existing welds is butt welds. can we allow them to have socket welds? if yes, will socket welds have the strength as butt welds? I have to give ITP also. What should I give in the ITP?

Kindly I need your valuable inputs.
