[MW:10957] ASTM 514 equivalent grade material?

Hello Srinivas,

Attached  are the compositions and the mechanical properties of all grades of ASTM A514.The back to back grades adopted for boiler and pressure vessels are classified under SA -517. You may see the comparative descriptions for  all the grades concerned.

Since these steels not used  for common fabrication work, one has to compare all the properties then only look for substitution. You may not get the exact equivalence and replacement , if so is intended.

If you have any specific issue with this steel feel free to drop a lone.

Thanks.

Dear Srini

From I did in past, it is allowed to substitute material when the following requirement/number of factors are met to the original mat’l (I notice this depends on Client Spec).
1. Carbon content
2. Sulfur composition
3. Phosphor composition
4. Mechanical properties i.e. yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and etc
5. Carbon equivalent (shall not exceed CEQ maximum) or PCM max
6. Impact test (if required by Client)

Have a nice day
