[MW:10746] Re: WQT

Hi,

You question is not clear?

6GR shall be qualified as per Figure 4.27 of AWS D1.1 with a minimum
thk of 12mm for dia 6" and above.

Let me answer in a generic way!

A) If a WQT is conducted on a 6" Dia x 12mm thk pipe in 6GR position
(as per Figure 4.27 of AWS D1.1) - The qualification range for the
welder will be

1) Can weld (Butt Groove) All CJP, PJP except mentioned in the
brackets (Not qualified for joints welded from one side without
backing, or welded from two sides without back gouging) - Refer Table
4.10 for more details.
2) Can weld (T, Y, K Groove) All CJP, PJP except mentioned in the
brackets (Not qualified for welds having groove angles less than
30deg) - Refer Table 4.10 for more details.
3) Nominal Pipe Size Qualified - 4" and above
4) Nominal Pipe Thickness Qualified - 5mm and above
5) Dihedral Angles Qualified - 30deg and above.

B) If a WQT is conducted on a 6" Dia x 11mm thk pipe in 6G position -
The qualification range for the welder will be

1) Can weld (Butt Groove) All CJP, PJP
2) Can weld (T, Y, K Groove) All PJP
3) Nominal Pipe Size Qualified - 4" and above
4) Nominal Pipe Thickness Qualified - 5mm and above

Hope the above will guide you something!

Cheers!

Raj
