42CrMOS4-  What is the heat treatment condition Normalised or Quenched and Tempered.
 
Stregth will not be criteria for  welding of these materials.  You can use E 7018 or E 8018 electode.  You have to preheat of 200 C and post heat of 300 C for 30 min  to avoid hydrogen induced cracking.
 
If you donot want preheat and post heat, you can use E 309L or E 309L MO-16.
