Re: [MW:10256] PWHT after pipe spool repair

Hi,

SPWHT (simulated PWHT) is generally carried out to check mechanical properties as you know that PWHT may degrade mechanical properties such as CVN values and strength also, therefore whenever code requires component to be PWHT, one should ask Manufacturer to do SPWHT.

It requires material to be PWHT twice and then testing such as tensile, Hardness, Impact and NDT is done in order to know the effects of PWHT. also i would like to know the heat treatment done by manufacturer, specially TMCP steels very popular for their weldability are prone to degradation of mechanical properties after PWHT.

We have a seam less carbon steel SA-106 pipe spool duly Post weld heat treated.
Due to mis match, we had to cut two circumferencial welds and re done them. We are ready to conduct PWHT again, the question is do we need to re test any property of spool or place a test pipe and check properties again?

Thanks all!!
