Re: [MW:10181] T & t conflicts?WPS is 1.5 to 14.22mm, can i qualify welder in T - 12.70 for 5 to 25.4mm ? is possible r not?

Hi ilan,

As of me.. Timing is not a matter.
Between weld passes we have to maintain interpass temperature.
so after time gap, pre heat the welding then continue welding when if this type of time gap exist.

& Heat input is supplementary essential once requirement for Toughnes & Pwht, then we have to maintain the heat input.
if it is not required, u can taken from a qualified PQR.

& QW 353 & 356 are Welders essential variable.. Its for welder qualification.

Regards

Dear all,

I have to qualify the welder as per section IX. The material is P1 and group1. I have qualified WPS with me. The thickness of the pipe is 7.11 and 6inch dia & position 6G.

Root/hot pass is TIG welding process with ER 70S-2 and filling capping SMAW with E7018.

The welder says he cant complete it before lunch. He goes for lunch and comes after
2hrs. As far I know the welder qualification should be continuous eventhough weler has completed root and hot pass. Shall I allow him to go? or what is the time lapse as per secIX?

Could you please some one can explain me how to use QW-353 ( SMAW-variables) &
QW-356(TIG-Variables).

Is it mandatory to check the heat input of WQT of all the passes? If yes, what will be the maximum heat input allowed? is it as per WPS or what?

Finally what are the main documents to be checked while qualifying welder qualification test?

thank for your answers.

regards
Ilan

Hi,
Case : 1 - You can use this WPS to for welder qualification up to the test specimen thickness of 14.22mm.But in production welding if you want to weld more than 14.22mm,you cannot use this wps.You have to use another WPS with the thickness qualified of 14.22 and more.

Case 2: Yes.But if you want to use this welder to weld less than 5mm,you have to use another WPS qualified for less than 5mm.

Thanks & Regards,

(Karthik)

Dear all

As per ASME sec 9..
WPS in base metal T qualified is 1.5 to 14.22mm,
can i qualify a welder(WPQ) in  T - 12.70 for 5 to 25.4mm ? is
possible r not?

& vice versa.
WPS is 5 to 25.4mm, can i qualify welder in 7.11 for 1.5 to 14.22mm.
is possible or not?
