Re: [MW:10097] Can I use E 7018 in Pipe root runs? Wats the disadvantages?

Dear SRINI

When you want to welding an open root, you want an electrode that having deep penetration characteristic to help molten metal fill out into the side of root wall and slightly below the root for its internal reinforcement. You also want an electrode that having quickly freeze characteristic, to avoid fall of the weld metal, especially, when you weld in the top of pipe. E 6010 have those characteristics.

you can go with E7018, but burn through most likely happens, because the molten metal of E7018 can drop before it freeze. I say, weld with E7018 is more difficult than with a E6010.
