[MW:10297] RE: 10280] Comparison of various Intermetallic phases

Mr. Joshi,

The following NIDI publication provides good resources for understanding the above intermetallic phases in various types of stainless steels, austenitic, ferritic, duplex. It's downloable in the web.

Higher the alloying elements more are the chances of  formation of such phases.  It's very difficult to differentiate the phases under normal optical microscopy. One needs power electron microscopy SEM and TEM , to distinguish and differentiate these phases.

Intermetallics do exist in all types of stainless steels, however they may harm the steel only beyond at threshold limit.

I ' ve highlighted some relevant texts  in the attachment.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:10280] Comparison of various Intermetallic phases

Dear experts,

Do anybody have comparison of 'Sigma Phase' , 'Chi Phase' and ' Laves Phase' having info like reason of formation / temp and time / location / crystal structure of phases etc....?
