RE: [MW:9709] Welding on top of a weld

As far as i know normally for Butt to Butt we give 50mm gap and this is not specified in any spec.else 4 times the wall thickness.in vessel butt to fillet weld is 10-15mm should be maintained, this is also mentioned in ABS for structurals.

Subject: [MW:9705] Welding on top of a weld

Hello,

I have a case where the edge of the saddle of a pipe support coincides with the pipe's butt weld. Code is B31.1-2007. The edge is supposed to be fillet welded onto the pipe.
Is this permissible?

Thanks

Johnson
