RE: [MW:9198] corrosion on grith of weld joint

Dear Sujay!
Corrosion means how much the pitting depth?
1. If this pipe constructed newly means (not in service)
As per API 5L - 7.8.14 Other Defects: Any imperfection having a depth greater then 12.5% of the specified wall thickness. measured from the surface of the pipe, shell be consider a defect... so you can cut out the affected area and re weld and do  NDE  and as per your specification and do the re hydro test on the particular spool or your project specification.

2. If this pipe is serviced means you can follow API 570 Piping Inspection Code - Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Rerating of In-service Piping Systems.

Have a nice day !...

Thanks & Best regards

Dear All,

we facing a problem of corrosion on pipe adj cent to the butt weld joint, this happened due to unpainted of that area. as per project specification for weld girth be should be exposed (uncovered and unpainted)  and temporary covered with making tape and to be removed during  test. rest of pipe was painted,

this  was found during blasting time, after hydro test.

can anybody say how to repair or rectify that area with reference to code (newly constructed line).

your reply is highly appreciable.

Regards

Sujay
