E309-L and E316L are both same F number(5) and A number (8),SFA number 5.4. So it is acceptable.

Dear sir,

In weldoverlay  smaw  process welding, the changing electrode E309L in
place of E316L is acceptableor not?  It  mentioned in WPS that E309L
is for barrier Layer and E316L for clad layer

Thanks and regards
