RE: [MW:8873] Welding between A106 Gr.B and API 5L Gr.B

Mr.Elumalai,

You were right about API 5L Gr.B classification as S.No.1, but that was until only 2007 Sec.IX edition, the latest 2010 Sec.IX is addressing API 5L Gr.B as P.No.1 only.

Please find attachment for details.

Mr.Thiru Sam you need to see which version of Sec.IX is applicable for your contract / project and then  review it accordingly, if the latest versio needs to be followed , I think there should not be any problem in accepting this PQR and WPS.

No, API 5L  Gr.B is S1 group and will not cover the P1. So he has to qualify the PQR.

P1 covers S1 but S1 will not cover P1.    QW 420.2

With Kind regards,

S.Elumalai.

In accordance with ASME IX, (ASTM 106 Gr B) and (API 5L Gr B) have the same P-no and therefore , you don't need to qualify new WPS it covers BOTH.
