Re: [MW:8847] RE: 8674-Temper bead welding

Dear Pradeep

The material would be used in subsea pipeline system.Altough temper bead welding is not suggested for these materials, I just wanted to be sure if this technique has been used by other members of the group in their fields.
I understand the restriction of this technique to C.S. and LAS as slow cooling rate can used to achieve the required microstructure which is not possible in material say austenitic stainless steel( as the structure will remain austenite)

Best regards

Dear Vikas,

Usually temper bead welding is restricted to C.S and LAS ( up to 2.25Cr-1Mo steel). You may find the details in NBIC code NB-23, Part-3. It's not tried nor accepted by the design codes and other recommended practices for 13Cr or Duplex/Super Duplex S.S.

What's the intended use of this technique  for 13Cr or Duplex/Super Duplex S.S.Can you elaborate please??

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:8674] Temper bead welding

Dear All

Is temper bead welding ever used for 13Cr, duplex or super duplex materials to control the hardness values in  HAZ?
What are the implications if it is used?

Best regards
