RE: [MW:8758] Welding electrode to weld AISI 4140 with AISI 4130

Hi Aly,

Both of these steels are low alloy steels. E10018-D2 electrodes (e.g. OK 74.86 from ESAB) would be an ideal for these type of steels.
AISI 4130 is a good weldable in compare with AISI 4140. You need to follow a strict preaheating on 120-150 deg.C and apply PWHT straight after welding to relief the stress at 620 deg. with a soak time dependant on the thickness of to be welded parts.

Due to the fact that these type of steels are prone to post weld cracking 100% RT is mandatory before and after PWHT.

If any question please feel free to contact.

Thanks,
Elshan.

Subject: [MW:8733] Welding electrode to weld AISI 4140 with AISI 4130

Dear All,
Thank you for your time to read my question.

I have to weld grade AISI 4130 with AISI 4140. Weld joint configuration is a groove weld 6inch dia.

Which electrode is suitable for welding these base metals together.

UTS of these parent metals is around 95 to110 ksi.

Thanks

Mhaskar Aly
