Re: [MW:8675] RE: 8643] Thickness calculation for weldolet

Potter,
Thanks. Can you please send me the reference to the code recommending that the procedure has to be made for thinner base material thickness. In my case pipe is 9mm and weldolet is 21mm.

The answer is a definite yes. The procedure has to support the thinnest
member of the pressure retaining component.
I was made aware of this during my three year stamp renewal.

Subject: [MW:8643] Thickness calculation for weldolet

Hi,

How do we calculate the thickness of the weldolet for welding
procedure qualification? Code is B31.3 and ASME SECIX. Weldolet is 8"
SCH40 Bonney forge. So is the thickness (B-C)/2 ie 21mm?  Does  the
procedure qualification has to support base material thickness of
21mm. The pipe is 8" SCH40. Which section of B31.3 or SEC IX would
address the requirement for this attachment weld between pipe and
weldolet?

Thanks for your help.
