Subject: [MW:8571] aluminium welding

Dear Members,
We are using MIG welding for carbon steel.(You  can use MIG for AL welding also but it is better to use inverter base welding machine)
We would like to weld aluminum(min 6mm to max 10 mm) with the same process.
Is it required to change liner and wire feed rollers?( Yes it is better to use teflon/nylon liner as the metallic liner is not sutable for AL wire as it is very soft and get stuck)
What type of shielding gas to be used?( Use Argon If possible use high purity Argon)
What are the precautions to be taken during welding?(Refer the documents sent by  Mr Kartik)
What type of defects we can encounter?( You will get more of porosity)
Which process is best SMAW or GMAW?( SMAW is not used You use MIG or TIG)

Please advice in this regard.
thanks and regards,
Suresh
