you cant take  UT as alternative for RT,unless the Tw ( thickness of weld) is greater than equal to 13mm,no in-process examination shall either be taken as alternative Ref;K341.4.2 ASME B31.3

Dear all,

what is the alternative testing method fr longitudinal welds on outer pipe of jacket piping..whether possible to do RT on outer pipe? The inner pipe is 3"sch 80, 4"sch40 ,6"sch 40 respectively and outer pipe will be 4"sch80, 6"sch40, 8"sch40 respectively. The thickness is around 6mm to 8mm.

As per DGS, for long seam 100%RT. Is it possible to carry out RT or alternative UT? Contractor proposes only MPI.

Plz give ur valuable suggestions

Arvinda.
