Re: [MW:8209] heat input

dear ahmed
1-acc.to ASME IX (409.1)decrease in heat input not essential but from the metallurgical view it has a limit due to cooling rate ,micro structure, etc &it is a rule of thump
2-it is project spec., experience, may be welding book as ASM,WELDING HAND BOOK,
best regards

Subject: [MW:8197] heat input

Dear all,

I have come across a WPS for LTCS (with impact test) in which maximum heat input figure is below 800 joules/mm, But the actual heat input figure in supporting PQR is above 800 j/mm.  I have two questions.

1.       WPS is acceptable or not.

2.       Which code/ standard is referred to find out acceptable heat input limit.

Construction code is ASME B31.3; WPS qualification code is ASME SEC IX

With regards

 Ahmed H.
