Re: [MW:8025] RT of longitudinal seam

Well, code is not saying anything on this issue, wheather pt or hardness test required.this totally, depend upon project specification.
code saying only about the longitudinal seam intersection with circumferentinal girth,RT shall be examined 38 mm of longitudinal seam.

As ASME B31.3 mentioned:

Piping in Normal Fluid Service shall be examined to the extent specified herein or to any greater extent specified in the engineering design

When a circumferential weld with an intersecting longitudinal weld(s) is examined, at least the adjacent 38 mm (11⁄2 in.) of each intersecting weld shall be examined. (Para. 341.4.1. (b).1.)

In your case there are two longitudinal seam welds intersecting circumferential weld from both sides in the same line so to cover this area the girth weld and longitudinal weld shall be radiograghed separately so that all intersection area shall be clearly tested in addition PT and Hardness test shall be carried out to ensure that there is no surface defect or loss in ductility.

Hi,
this is applicable for longitudinal seam pipe and circuferential girth generally what we doing.
what  about when both side longitudinal seam are intersecting without maitain mim distance, at that  RT is applicable to take 38mm both side or we have to maintain that nominal distance at any cost.
attached B31.3 341

HI.
IF YOU USED 70 MM FILM AND PUT SEAM IN CENTER FILM, YOU HAVE APROXIMITLY MORE O LESS 38 MM OF INTERSECTION.

Asunto: [MW:8012] RT of longitudinal seam

Dear Friends,

Having doubt ,when longitudinal seam an intersecting with circuferential seam,Taking RT of circumferential full girth 100%, is acceptable or have to take 38mm of longitudinal seam  an intersecting point and reference is B31.3 cl341.4.1

The welds to be examined shall be selected to

ensure that the work product of each welder or welding

operator doing the productionwelding is included. They

shall also be selected to maximize coverage of intersections

with longitudinal joints. When a circumferential

weld with an intersecting longitudinal weld(s) is examined,

at least the adjacent 38 mm (1

12 in.) of each intersecting

weld shall be examined.

thanks and regards
