Re: [MW:7584] Re: possible?

Hello Prasad or Sasa,

Assuming that "SS 300"  means "AISI type 300"  austenitic stainless steel, welding with unalloyed steel will result in very much martensite, being hard and brittle.
Normally, this is not acceptable. The mechanical characteristics of the weld are worse than those of the weakest base material, being the carbon steel with regard to toughness, and the stainless steel SS300 with regard to strength.

Just weld with SS type 309S.
For high strength Carbon steel to stainless steels, take type 312 stainless steel consumables.

If welding already took place consider the consequences and decide what to do. It all depends on the agreed quality level. Refer to your clients requirements.
(Theoretically, it could be acceptable if the weld is not cracked and if it is not loaded. Remember that about 80% of all welds are never loaded).

Further I would like to add to this question , whether is it possible
to
weld CS to SS 300 series by CS consumables e.g. E7018?
Experts comments are requested.

Regards,

Prasad G.
