Re: [MW:7548] pwht requirement for service

Hi,
Please refer UCS 56(f).
If your case is not fall in service requirements you can do clit welding with minimum preheat of 95 degree celcius and the thoat thickness must not exceed 13mm.

Alsot in section-1 there is a provision for fillet welding of non pressure part to pressure part welding after hydo test.(PW54.3)

PW-54.3 Welding of nonpressure parts to pressure

parts and seal welding of pressure retaining handhole and

inspection plugs or fittings secured by physical means may

be performed after the hydrostatic test without requiring

another hydrostatic test provided the following criteria

are met.

PW-54.3.1 Welding is done in conformance with

this Part and the completed weld is inspected by the Authorized

Inspector. The Manufacturers' Data Report Form shall

be signed only after completion of the welding.

PW-54.3.2 For nonpressure parts welded to pressure

parts, the following additional conditions shall be met:

(a) The pressure part material is limited to P-No. 1

materials.

111

(b) The nonpressure attachment material is limited to

carbon steel with a carbon content not exceeding 0.2% or

any P-No. 1 material.

(c) The welding is done by stud welding or by fillet

welding having a throat not exceeding the lesser of 0.70

times the thickness of the pressure part or 14 in. (6 mm).

(d) A minimum 200°F (95°C) preheat shall be applied

when the pressure part thickness exceeds 34 in. (19 mm).

Dear members

We i have installed new desalter in our plant in which cement lining is not given in the drawing ,but the existin desalter have cement lining ,the thk of vessel is 34 mm and pwht  is given in the drawing ,we want to do cement lining in side the vessel to do this we need to weld the clit with vessel to hold the wire mesh.

It is mentioned in the drawing that no weld after pwht.

In this case what we have to do?

Is this pwht is service requirement or code requirement ,but as i know that as per sec VIII 38 mm thk is the pwht requirement.

if its service requirement pwht then what does the code mentioned about the pwht ,weather we go for weld clit without pwht or pwht ,

What is alternative rule to avoid pwht.

Plz reply as soon as possible.

Regards

Sunil rathore

    Subject: [MW:7486] reg baking

    Dear All,

Iam new to piping. I have some basic doubts and i request you to
please clarify..

    1. In our fab yard, in the evening after the work is finished,
the remaining electrodes(E-7018 and E-7018-1) are being kept back in the
oven and the entire night the oven will be at 150 deg.
Will it affect the coating if they r kept for that much time
(the entire night)?

    No

    2. Do i have to do baking for those electrodes again in the
morning?

    Not Required

    3. What is the max number of recycling of electrodes?

    Re-Baking maximum of only once

    4. what is the purpose of doing baking till 250 deg ?

    Removal of Adsorbed moiture

doesnt the moisture will be removed if we maintain 150 deg i.e
continuously at holding temp?

    Mfg has to advise

    Regards,

    vasu.
