Re: [MW:7389] Fwd: Welding of LTCS cast to SS 316 Plate

Hi,
You are correct.
As per CENISO/TR 20173:2005(D) ,SA352 LCB is fall in Group number 1.1 and TP316 fall in Group number 8.1.
According to ISO15614,Group number 1 with Gr.No.1 qualified for 1 with 1.Also Gr.No.8 with Gr.* qualified for 8 with 8.If you want to weld Group number 8 with Group number 1,WPS and PQR shall be qualified with any one of following group number combination.

According to ISO15614-1,Table-3

Group number 8 with Group number 2 - qualified for 8-2,1
Group number 8 with Group number 3  qualified for 8-3,2,1
Group number 8 with Group number 4 qualified for 8-5,4,2,1,6.1,6.2
Group number 8 with Group number 5 qualified for 8-5,4,2,1,6.1,6.2
Group number 8 with Group number 6 qualified for 8-6,4,2,1
So the WPS shall be qualified with anyone of the above combination to weld SA352 LCB(Gr.1.1) with TP316(Gr.8.1)

Hi there,

We have a situation, our Valve contractor want to weld jachket material which is plate stainless steel TP316 Eurpian standard to LTCS cast material ASTM A 352 LCB standard. The reference welding code will be Europian standard. We asked for WPS, and they provide us WPS for CS to CS material, & SS to SS material acomponied by PQR, but WPS for LTCS to SS material. We asked for LTCS to SS material WPS and PQR, and they replied that within Europian standard they never used such WPS. My quesion is, "Is this answer is acceptable?", what I know according to ASME Sec IX, for wach welding type we should have exact WPS and PQR, otherwise is not acceptable.
Could you please help me on this.

Thanks & Regards,
Parviz
