Re: [MW:7317] COKE DRUM PNEUMATIC TEST

Pneumatic test of such big vessel shall not be considered as explained by others in this forum.

In L&T Hazira (Surat, Gujarat, India) , hydro of vessels far bigger than this size has been done. One of them was Regenrator for Reliance Jamnagar (people in Mumbai would have seen the photograph of the same on the sign boards on the light poles in Mumabi with slogan "We make the things which makes India Proud" ) with Dimension 16meter in diameter and 45meter tall in horizontal position where vessel was supported on the wooden saddles. Another giant tested was 7m dia X 105m long where I was involved.

Similar larger vessels I have witnessed hydro test in KNM-Malaysia where we have testes similar giants in horizontal condition with steel saddles with wood cushions

However as indicated by other members, hydro test may be done in vertical condition with some extra precautions and supports. But doing hydro at manufacturer's place woud be real problem due to lack of resources (floor condition and support structure, crane capacities, space to make it vertical, etc) for such big column to make it vertical and install vertically to hold (weight of the vessel fuly filled with water).

The best way is to ask deviation If possible to do Hydro at site (in installed condition) where the structure and supports would be in place after installation.

Regards.

Hi all,

My vendor has raised concession request regarding pneumatic test instead of
hydrotest of  low allo cladded coke drums to reduce cycle time.

Coke drum size :- 10 M OD X 45 M overall length. As per specification/
contract they have to do hydrotest.

Please share experts your suggestions for acceptance or rejection.
