Re: [MW:7159] Welder Qualification on WPS with PWHT

Hi,
WPS/PQR thickness qualifications follow Sec.IX.Table 331.1.1. of B31.3 -requirements of Heat treatment. It is apply during PWHT of PQR and production welding.
For welder Qualification No need to do PWHT,Because it is not an essential variable for Welder Qualifications.

Thanks & regards,

Hi There,

I'm developing a WPS with the following criteria:

Welding Code: ASME IX

Construction Code: ASME B31.3

Material: ASTM A333 / API 5L

Thickness: 44.45mm; 400 NB pipe

Preheat: 79°C

PWHT: 593°C - 649°C as per table 331.1.1 of ASME B31.1

My question, is what is the thickness range, should I follow table 331.1.1 of ASME B31.1 for the minimum thickness, and table QW-451.1 of ASME IX for the maximum thickness?

Assuming all the necessary test on the coupon for the PQR have passed, and we need to do some welder qualification on the same WPS, do we need to do PWHT on the test coupon?

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,

Larry
