Re: [MW:7091] Re: Huey Test and IGC

Dear Herman Sir,

Thank you for the valuable information .I need some clarification on the following lines.

"Practice C (Huey) = Standard 5 x 48 hours" , what is this 5? 5 pieces of test specimen or any other item?

"Practice E (Strauss) = Standard is 15 hours - Boiling Acidified Copper
Sulfate Test Solution (if required also 48 or 72 hours can be used),
acceptance criteria are cracks in the specimen after three point bend
test."

Acceptance criteria are cracks or no cracks? If answer is cracks, then what is the logic behind that?

Please clear my dobts.

Regards,

Limesh

Dear Limesh,

As already mentioned by Mr. Raghuram Bathula you have several tests
according to ASTM A262. All are related to inter-granular attack but
in different environments. Find below the solutions, test time and
acceptance criteria for your info. Be aware that for Practice B and C
the max. allowable corrosion rate should be specified by your client.

Practice B (Streicher) = 1 x 120 hours Boiling Ferric Sulfate–Sulfuric
Acid Test Solution, acceptance criteria is corrosion rate in mm/month
Practice C (Huey) = Standard 5 x 48 hours - Boiling Nitric Acid Test
Solution (sometimes also 1 x 48 hour + 1x 96 hour is used), acceptance
criteria is corrosion rate in mm / month
Practice E (Strauss) = Standard is 15 hours - Boiling Acidified Copper
Sulfate Test Solution (if required also 48 or 72 hours can be used),
acceptance criteria are cracks in the specimen after three point bend
test.

Herman Pieper
