Re: [MW:6632] MW:6593- Re: value of ferrite content

Hi Louis,

FN level given by you is seems to be very low.

Might be this one for the ASS.

Hi

Thanks for your valuable message.

But my client specification give acceptance range  for duplex weld acceptance is 3 to 10 FN only.

Louis

Hi Louis,

Please find the following documents for your reference. The first one (extracted from Metals Handbook) is the WRC-1992 diagram for predicting ferrite in stainless steel weld metal. For duplex stainless steel the concept is based on extended ferrite no, shown in the diagram.

The second paper from Avesta, shows the formula for conversion of  % Ferrite to FN.

·         Volume Percent Ferrite = 0.55 EFN + 10.6

This formula looks to be accurate as  Ferrite 65% by volume fraction turns out to 100 FN approx.

You may use this formula to convert form Volume % ferrite to FN, as asked below.

Thanks.

Dear all,

Can anybody give reference details what is ferrite no range will get if duplex weld ferrite content is 30-60%.

above value mentioned by Mr Bathula is for weld metal, not base material.
