Re: [MW:6451] Queries regarding the repair of castings

Hi arijoy,
1) You need to prepare repair procedure of castings based on casting material specification and customer specification.
2) It is not the questing of the depth. Generally Casting material spec. defines the minor repair and major repair depends upon the depth and area of gouging/Grinding. For major repair generally spec. suggest for stress releiving or other heat treatment cycle and NDT.
e.g DSS, you have to go for solution annealing after welding.
3) during repair and after removal of defect, you need to perform NDT( PT/MPI) and see whether any defects still remains or not. If ok, go for welding as per repair welding procedure and after welding and heat treatment perform NDT and visual inspection.

Dear Sir
I need the following informations
1) Which standards specifies the guidelines for repair welding of low alloy castings?
2) What is the depth, as a percentage of the total thickness, upto which repair welding is allowed?
3) What is the method of quality check of the repaired portion ?
