[MW:6497] RE: 6492] Welder Qualification and reinforcement

Hi,

1.As per my view reinforcement is a form of weld deposition where there no fusion with the base metal, so the reinforcement cannot be taken in consideration during the welder qualification, then root penetration is not an variable which is mentioned in the welder qualification, which is left to the designer choice.

2.We cannot weld 25 mm plate using 2 welders, as they were qualified to weld 20 mm full welding only, for welding 25 mm plate 1 welder qualified up to 20 mm can be used whereas the 2nd welder must be qualified for welding the repair welding.

Hi Guys,

1) I wonder why we will not consider the reinforcement and Root penetration in welder qualification thickness range..? as this is also a form of weld deposition.

2) Can we weld a 25 mm thick plate using 2 welders each is qualified to weld 20mm.Welding code is AWS D 1.1

Hope to have your helpful answers.

Thanks & Regards,

Ather
