Dear Sir,

The minimum length required for SAW PQR / WPQ test plates is similar
to other welding processes (min. 500 mm) because the length specified
is the minimum length required for producing all the required
specimens together with some retest specimens if necessary. The length
required also depends on the material thickness because when you have
heavy wall thickness the laboratory will need smaller samples in order
to test the full thickness because of test machine capacity. Because
SAW is an automatic welding process a lot of companies used 1000 mm as
an actual length because it is not easy to weld a 500 mm plate.
