Re: [MW:5635] WPS /WPQR

Dear Friend,
 
I have same problem.
we have a qualified WPS in 2G (Horizontal Position) as per AWS D 1.1 requirements.
Now Contractor/Client  want to use this approved WPS (Horizontal Position) to qualify a welder in 3G (Vertical Up hill) position to AWS D 1.1 requirements.

Can we allow the WPS or do they need to qualify a WPS in 3G Position with reference to AWS D 1.1 requirements.

With reference to AWS D1.1, table 4.1, you cannot use this procedure for welding in 3G position.
Thus, you cannot qualify welder by using WPS which is qualified in 4G position.
