Re: [MW:5571] Distance between welds

Hi

In our internal standards we have 30mm from HAZ to HAZ in special cases.
You can make hardness test if you are in doubt, the hardness shall be lower then the hardness recorded in the PQR

good practice is 75 to 100 mm

Dears,

As per Sec VIII ,UW-9(d)
(d) Except when the longitudinal joints are radiographed
4 in. (100 mm) each side of each circumferential welded
intersection, vessels made up of two or more courses shall
have the centers of the welded longitudinal joints of adjacent
courses staggered or separated by a distance of at
least five times the thickness of the thicker plate.

Code  given only the distance that shall be maintained between Long seams of adjacent shell sections. For Distance between Butt welds and fillet welds, refer to Customer/Client specifications.
Generally Used in Process Piping/power piping as 1.5 D or 6 times of thk as per the condition which one is higher ,there is no way take the 100% Radiography of both joints won,t not meet above condtion.

Dear All

My case is:-

code of construction- ASME B31.3
LPG/LNG pipeline

For Pig signaller, we have to weld a barred tee in the pup piece attached with valve.

pup piece material- API 5L X60 PSL2
barred tee- ASTM A860 WPHY 60

length of pup piece is 125 mm. Kindly find the attached drawing for welding connection.

Acc. to Australian std distance between welds should be 6 times of thickness, in this case we r not able to weld.
PLS confirm looking at the drawing, can the welding be performed?
