[MW:0] RE: 5612] Barrier layer for corrosion resistant overlay

Dear Mr. Atul,

As you mentioned, in general most of value manufacturers carryout
overlay on seating area with direct matching electrodes (E316) without
using barrier layer electrodes i.e. with E309 type due to the following
reasons.

- Overlay on seating area is not for corrosion purpose. It is required
for purpose of wear resistance to contact with the matching part.
- Most of the manufacturers are using automatic welding system to
carryout this overlay, hence the dilution problems are minimized.

If it is applicable for corrosion resistance purpose, it is strongly
recommended to use high alloyed electrodes for barrier layer (E309) and
rest by the matching electrodes in order to minimize dilution and
avoiding martensite formation in the interface, which will reduce the
corrosion properties.

Subject: [MW:5612] Barrier layer for corrosion resistant overlay

Dear All,

I have a doubt regarding body seat corrosion resistant overlay welding
on valves by valve manufacturers .Can they use E316-16 directly on
body seat(A 216 WCB) without using dissimilar weld metal barrier
layer

regards

atul
