Re: [MW:5160] ASTM E45 method D

Hi Ramprasad,

My opinion is that it is not applicable. If we refer the scope of E 45 it states for wrought steel only and not for cast product.

2nd Point is that in cast steel one may get bigger size inclusion since no mechanical work is involved while in wrought steel, the size and shape of inclusion will vary as per type of mechanical work.

In hollow forging, many mfr. allow the billets for production even if they have higher inclusion rating considering the subsequent forging work.

I encountered with forging only as far as micro as per ASTM E 45 concern.
